Vice President and Deputy Chief Underwriter
Based in Irvine, California, Chris Montes is a Vice President and Deputy Chief Underwriter for the company’s multifamily small loans team. Mr. Montes is responsible for the underwriting, review, and approval of all Fannie Mae Small Loans, and he oversees new credit processes and cross-departmental collaboration. Mr. Montes has nearly ten years of experience in the commercial real estate finance industry and has an extensive understanding of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s programs.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Montes was a Deputy Chief Underwriter for Arbor Realty Trust where he managed an 18-member team of underwriters and analysts across multiple offices nationwide, including all contract underwriting relationships, focused on Fannie Mae’s Multifamily Small Loan and Freddie Mac’s Small Balance Loan products. Previously, Mr. Montes was a Team Lead and Senior Underwriter for Arbor, and he was responsible for reviewing and approving an average of five loans a week. Before joining Arbor, Mr. Montes was an Underwriter at Berkeley Point Capital and Arbor Commercial Mortgage, where he underwrote Fannie Mae DUS® loans, Multifamily Small Loans, and affordable loans (LURA, LIHTC, HAP Contracts), as well as Freddie Mac conventional and Small Balance Loans.
Mr. Montes holds a Master of Science in management and leadership from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in business economics from the University of California, Irvine.
