Allan Edelson
Senior Managing Director
Allan Edelson is a 29-year veteran of the commercial real estate industry and has 24 years of experience in multifamily real estate finance. Over the past 22 years, he has completed over $15.245 billion in loan volume and he has consistently been one of the top loan-generating originators at Walker & Dunlop.
Mr. Edelson is one of few originators in the country who have directly originated more than $3 billion for both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This Agency loan volume was generated from approximately 816 mortgages. Despite his industry-leading volume, the aggregate loan loss across Mr. Edelson’s $15.245 billion in loans has been less than 2 bps per loan. This record of high volume coupled with extremely low loan loss equates to an unparalleled track record in the Agency origination industry.
Prior to joining Walker &’ Dunlop, Mr. Edelson spent just over 18 years with CWCapital and Deutsche Bank Berkshire Mortgage. Mr. Edelson’s areas of expertise include structured transactions, portfolio transactions, large one-off loans, affordable housing, senior housing loans, as well as green financing. He has proven to be an industry leader and innovator, as exemplified by many ‘firsts’: he was the first individual to execute a DMBS loan and a variable rate loan on a senior housing transaction; he pioneered the structuring of a non-crossed facility; he designed many features found in today’s large structured deals; he implemented the original the float-to-fix-to-float structure; and he restructured the first performing Freddie Mac loan from amortizing to interest only. Mr. Edelson has also been successful at identifying arbitrage opportunities between the capital markets and the Agency loan programs in ways that consistently add value to his clients. These credentials and results have earned him a loyal client base.
Mr. Edelson holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, where he graduated magna cum laude and received his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. Additionally, Mr. Edelson received his CPA designation from the state of Maryland.
