about Chris Harris

Chris Harris, Managing Director, oversees the Walker & Dunlop Structured Finance group and is responsible for structuring equity placements nationwide. Throughout his career, Mr. Harris has originated over $14 billion in equity and debt financings for multifamily, student, and affordable properties throughout the United States. Mr. Harris is located Walker & Dunlop’s Dallas, Texas office.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Harris served as a principal and chief financial officer at Criterion Development Partners, LLC where he was responsible for finance, accounting, planning, investor relations, and risk management. Before Criterion, Mr. Harris was employed by FirstWorthing where he served as executive vice president, chief financial officer, and partner.  During his tenure at FirstWorthing, Mr. Harris took the lead role in sourcing, negotiating, and closing a $350 million operating company investment partnership and negotiated and closed a $100 million debt financing program with Freddie Mac for the conventional housing business. Mr. Harris was instrumental in working side by side with Walker & Dunlop’s agency platform (formerly known as Green Park Financial) in originating a $150 million committed credit facility in 2001 with Fannie Mae for their student housing pilot program, which continues today.  

Earlier in his career, Mr. Harris served as executive vice president at JPI Partners, where he assumed a lead role in negotiating and closing a $450 million equity partnership with General Electric Capital Corporation and oversaw the sourcing and closing of $2 billion in project-level financing. His prior experience also includes management positions at Security Capital Group and Trammell Crow Residential.

Mr. Harris earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas.

Beyond the company, Mr. Harris serves on the advisory board of The Margaret and Robert Folsom Institute for Real Estate at SMU and is a member of National Multifamily Housing Council.
