Douglas Bates is a senior director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Kansas City, Missouri. In this role, Bates is responsible for the production of commercial real estate finance transactions nationwide. He has extensive experience structuring acquisitions, refinances, construction loans, and complex debt and equity financings across multiple asset classes, including multifamily, office, industrial, retail, self-storage, seniors housing, student housing, manufactured housing, and properties utilizing Historic Tax Credits and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. His capital sources include Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, life insurance companies, CMBS, debt funds, and banks.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Bates served as vice president at Grandbridge Real Estate Capital, where he originated commercial and multifamily loans and sourced equity for real estate transactions.
Bates earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri–Columbia and a master’s degree in business administration in finance from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He serves on the board of the Kansas City chapter of CCIM and is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Urban Land Institute. He also serves on the boards of KC CAN! and Horizon Academy and lives in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with his wife and their two children.
