James Chapman

James Chapman is a director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Los Angeles, California. Over the course of his 25-year career, he has arranged more than $2.4 billion of financing for approximately 31 million square feet of industrial, retail, office, research and development, and self-storage properties, as well as approximately 4,000 multifamily units and manufactured housing pads. He structures financings through life insurance companies, local and national banks, credit unions, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, bridge lenders, equity providers, CMBS lenders, and proprietary capital sources.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Chapman served as a vice president at Johnson Capital, which was acquired by Walker & Dunlop, where he specialized in sourcing and structuring financing for multifamily, industrial, retail, and office properties. Earlier in his career, he worked in multifamily development and served as an internal auditor at Metmor Financial.

Chapman earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder and a master’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. He holds a California real estate broker license.
