John Montakab
Senior Managing Director
John Montakab is a senior managing director of Capital Markets at Walker & Dunlop, based in Irvine, California. In his role, he is responsible for sourcing and structuring financing solutions across all commercial real estate asset classes on the West Coast, with a strong focus on multifamily assets. Over the past four years, Mr. Montakab has successfully completed more than $6 billion in financing, leveraging his deep market expertise and strategic approach to capital solutions. Mr. Montakab stands out for his unique experience in both investment sales and the finance of commercial real estate.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop in January 2021, he served as a first vice president at CBRE, where he led multifamily brokerage efforts, advising clients on transactions and market strategy throughout Southern California. Over his career, he has facilitated property sales exceeding $5 billion across the Inland Empire, Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties. His background includes expertise in affordable housing transactions, complex deal structuring, and market analysis, giving him a well-rounded perspective on both debt and equity. Earlier in his career, Mr. Montakab was an associate director at Institutional Property Advisors, a division of Marcus & Millichap, where he further honed his expertise in investment sales and advisory services.
Mr. Montakab earned his bachelor’s degree in management science from the University of California, San Diego. Mr. Montakab, along with his business partner, Mark Grace, was also honored with the GlobeSt. Rainmakers award in CRE Debt, Equity & Finance in 2023.
