Steven Canares is a director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. In this role, Canares is responsible for structuring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debt financing solutions for owners and operators of multifamily real estate assets across the United States.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Canares served as an assistant vice president at Bellwether Enterprise, where he was part of a production team responsible for more than $750 million in agency and commercial real estate debt financing. Earlier in his career, he served as an assistant vice president of production at Walker & Dunlop, structuring debt and equity financing across multiple commercial real estate asset classes.

Canares earned a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.
