John Montakab is a senior managing director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Irvine, California. In this role, Montakab is responsible for sourcing and structuring financing solutions across all commercial real estate asset classes on the West Coast, with a focus on multifamily properties. Since joining Walker & Dunlop in 2021, he has executed more than $6 billion in debt transactions and advises institutional and private clients on complex capital strategies.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Montakab served at CBRE, where he led multifamily brokerage efforts across Southern California. Over the course of his career, he has facilitated more than $5 billion in property sales across the Inland Empire, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego. His experience spans affordable housing, complex deal structuring, and market analysis across both debt and equity transactions.

Montakab earned a bachelor’s degree in management science from the University of California, San Diego. He and his business partner, Mark Grace, were recognized as GlobeSt. Rainmakers in CRE Debt, Equity, and Finance in 2023.
