Michael Liefer is a managing director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Chicago, Illinois. In this role, Liefer is responsible for originating multifamily capital through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, banks, life insurance companies, and debt funds. Throughout his more than 20 years in the industry, he has structured billions of dollars in permanent, construction, bridge, and preferred equity financings.

Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop in 2011, Liefer was a vice president of acquisitions for Banner Apartments, a real estate investment firm based in Northbrook, Illinois, where he was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and financing multifamily properties nationwide. He began his career as a Series 7/63 licensed equity broker at FBR Capital Markets & Co., an investment bank headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.

Liefer earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and supply chain management from Michigan State University.
