Jeff Burns is a senior managing director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Walnut Creek, California. In this role, Burns is responsible for new multifamily loan origination in California and the western United States, and leads one of the firm’s top-producing origination teams. He specializes in multifamily financing through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and other institutional capital sources. Over the course of his career, Burns has secured more than $20 billion in commercial real estate financing transactions.
Prior to his current role, Burns joined Walker & Dunlop in February 2009 in conjunction with the firm’s acquisition of certain assets of Column Guaranteed, where he had been since October 2005. Earlier in his career, he held roles at Deutsche Bank Berkshire Mortgage, Bank of the West, and Citibank.
Burns earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Oregon State University, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco. He sits on the Fannie Mas DUS Originator Advisory Council and is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Bay Area Mortgage Association. He is also the former chairman of the California Mortgage Bankers Association.
