Justin Nelson, Managing Director, joined Walker & Dunlop in 2012 and is responsible for financing income-producing properties nationwide, including office, apartment, hospitality, industrial, and retail. Since joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Nelson has provided financing for an extensive list of institutional clients that includes some of the largest private equity and pension funds in the U.S. Mr. Nelson has established a reputation as a true commercial real estate expert, advising clients and capitalizing transactions to fit a variety of business plans. Mr. Nelson’s deep knowledge of the capital markets is evidenced by transactions with nearly 50 unique capital sources since 2013 ranging in size from $2 – 150 million.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Nelson served as Vice President at Grandbridge Real Estate Capital. Mr. Nelson began his career in 2005 as a development associate for Wisconsin-based Gorman & Company, Inc., where he placed and structured Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) for the development of affordable multifamily housing across the Midwest. During his tenure at Gorman & Company, Mr. Nelson successfully financed over $100 million in developments utilizing complex public and private financial structures, including Brownfield Grants, Federal HOME funds, Municipal TIF financing, as well as various green programs.
Mr. Nelson graduated with high honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Grasskamp Center for Real Estate with a BBA in real estate and urban land economics.
Beyond the company, Mr. Nelson is an active member in several industry organizations including the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC), NAIOP, the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA), the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Mr. Nelson is also involved in multiple philanthropic community organizations including the Lighthouse Youth Center, Junior Achievement, and HOPE Schools.
