Justin Nelson, Managing Director, joined Walker & Dunlop in 2012 and is responsible for financing income-producing properties including office, apartment, hospitality, industrial and retail in the Midwest region. Throughout his career, Mr. Nelson has structured and placed nearly $1 billion in debt, deployed through numerous structures including permanent financing (both forward commitments and immediate fundings), construction, bridge, mezzanine and equity placement.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Nelson served as vice president at Grandbridge Real Estate Capital. In 2005, Mr. Nelson began his career as a development associate for Gorman & Company, Inc. based out of Madison, Wisconsin where he was responsible for the placement and structuring of Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) for the development of affordable multifamily housing across the Midwest. During his tenure at Gorman & Company, Mr. Nelson successfully financed over $100 million in developments utilizing complex public and private financial structures that included Brownfield Grants, Federal HOME funds, Municipal TIF financing, as well as various “Green” initiatives.
Mr. Nelson graduated with high honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Grasskamp Center for Real Estate with a B.B.A. in real estate and urban land economics.
Beyond the company, Mr. Nelson is an active member in several industry organizations including the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC), NAIOP, the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA), the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Mr. Nelson is also involved in multiple philanthropic community organizations including the Lighthouse Youth Center, Junior Achievement, and HOPE Schools.
