Will Baker is a senior managing director of Capital Markets | Real Estate Finance at Walker & Dunlop and is based in Birmingham, Alabama. In this role, Baker is responsible for new loan originations nationwide, with a focus on student housing, conventional multifamily, manufactured housing, and build-for-rent properties. He originates multifamily loans through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, bridge lenders, banks, life insurance companies, and HUD executions. He has more than 20 years of experience in multifamily finance and has originated more than $11.2 billion in agency financing, including more than $4.0 billion in student housing volume. He has played a key role in positioning Walker & Dunlop at the top of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac student housing production rankings for the past 10 years, and is part of a production team consistently ranked a top 3 Fannie Mae DUS lender and Freddie Mac Optigo lender.
Prior to his current role, Baker has held senior production responsibilities within Walker & Dunlop’s multifamily finance platform, focusing on agency lending and student housing transactions nationwide.
Baker earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics at Washington and Lee University. He also holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation. Baker is a member of the National Multifamily Housing Council and the Urban Land Institute Student Housing Committee, and is a three-time recipient of the Interface Student Housing Innovator Award for Best Financing Solution. Outside the company, he is actively involved with the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham, and the Saint Vincent’s Hospital Foundation Board. Baker resides in Birmingham, Alabama, with his wife, Susannah, and their three children.
