Managing Director
Mike Melody, Managing Director, is based out of Houston, Texas and is responsible for sourcing of capital for acquirers and owners of commercial real estate. He also keeps existing owner and lender clients apprised of the ever-changing capital markets environment. Mr. Melody brings over 30 years of experience to the company and has advised clients on more than $7 billion of transactions over the past ten years alone.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Melody was Executive Managing Director at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), where he co-led the Capital Markets Finance practice, focused on building national lender relationships, sourcing high profile loan originations, and structured debt for owners and lenders. Before his time at JLL, Mr. Melody held was Vice Chairman position at CBRE Capital Markets. In this role, he co-headed the firm’s national debt and equity finance group, and then went on to serve as President of CBRE’s broker-dealer affiliate, CBRE Capital Corporation. Mr. Melody previously played a critical role in helping build one of the nation’s largest real estate investment banking firms, L.J. Melody & Company, which was acquired by CBRE in 1996.
Mr. Melody earned a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas. Beyond the company, Mr. Melody is active in several commercial real estate organizations, including the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), and Urban Land Institute (ULI). He has also published numerous articles in industry publications and holds Series 7, 24, and 63 securities licenses.
