Managing Director
Tom Melody, Managing Director, is based in Houston, Texas and is responsible for securing financing and structuring equity for owners and developers of all commercial real estate asset classes. Mr. Melody has been involved in the commercial real estate finance industry for over 35 years and has extensive experience securing debt and structuring equity joint ventures and other structured debt transactions with all asset classes. Mr. Melody specializes in institutional properties and has been involved with numerous developments as well as dispositions throughout the United States. Over the past ten years, he has advised clients on more than $9 billion of commercial real estate transactions.
Prior to joining Walker & Dunlop, Mr. Melody served as Executive Managing Director and co-head of the Capital Market’s-Finance platform at Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) from 2010-2019. In this role, Mr. Melody was responsible for building the Finance platform, was focused on developing national investor relationships, and was involved with structuring high-profile loan originations, equity placements, and recapitalizations for owners of commercial and multifamily real estate. Under his leadership with partners Tom Fish and Mike Melody, the Capital Market’s-Finance business grew from less than $1 billion to over $25 billion in annual volume. Before joining JLL, Mr. Melody was with CBRE for 14 years and served as Vice Chairman in the firm’s Capital Markets group. Prior to CBRE, he was a principal at L.J. Melody & Company, a leading real estate investment banking firm based in Houston that Mr. Melody helped build and that was acquired by CBRE in 1996.
Mr. Melody received his BBA from the University of Texas, has an MBA from Southern Methodist University, and earned an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He a real estate broker in the state of Texas and is involved with many real estate associations, including the MBA and ULI. He is also active with the University of Texas McCombs Advisory Board. Mr. Melody is married to Martha Melody and has four children.
